Transit Commission Approves Fare Adjustment

The Green Bay Transit Commission unanimously approved a fare adjustment for monthly passes at their board meeting today.

In a 6-0 vote, Commissioners approved raising monthly pass fares effective February 2, 2009. A half-fare Saturday was also approved. Cash fares remain unchanged.

The approved fare structure is attached as a PDF document.

An increase was both expected and understood but $9 in one swoop is disgusting.

You couldn't raise the student to $21 and the adult to $30? Why does the adult pass bear ALL of this burden?

I think what this will force some to do is start walking and to only ride the bus when 100% needed.

I know now instead of buying a pass year round I'll only buy one from Nov-March and from April-Oct I'll walk home from work. I'll only take the bus if it's storming, etc. So,instead of getting $26/mo from me from April through Oct. you'll now get at most $6 assuming I ride the bus home one day a week each month. That's a loss of $20/mo for 7 months.

I hope more people do this. I hope people who had recently started riding the bus because it was an affordable option find other ways and I hope ridership decreases forcing you people to wake up.

For $35 I expect each and every bus to be ON TIME every single day and I expect the drivers to not have a stick up their a-s all the time.

If I'm paying more then I expect to receive something in return.

Yeah it's actually sad when the cost of a bus pass goes up, yet the quality of customer service from each driver has actually worsen in the last year. I have been berated by a driver because I had my hands full trying to get my pass out of my pocket

http://www.ci.green-bay.wi.us /geninfo/metro/metro_fares.html

the website still lists the old $26 fare.

Is anyone supposed to update that? Of is that one of those things that no one takes responsibility for; you know, like getting the drivers to leave the transfer station on schedule.

The buses will occasionally run late due to weather, heavy traffic, and boats/trains.

It is absurd to think that EVERY bus will ALWAYS be on time. There is no transit system in the country that can claim being 100% on time.
