Route 14: East Green Bay/Bellevue

This post will outline the proposed Route 14. This route is substantially different from the current Route 14: Edison.

The proposed Route 14 picks up portions of the former Route 2, Route 7, and Route 14. This route begins at the Transit Center and terminates in Bellevue at the Target/Copps located at the corner of Lime Kiln and Allouez Avenue in Bellevue.

This route is one hour long and is provided with one bus. The trip from downtown to Target is 30 minutes long and the return trip is another 30 minutes.

The route leaves the transit center and travels east along University. The route takes a left turn at Irwin and heads north to Eastman. The route then travels along Eastman to Elizabeth and heads north. The route turns east onto Cofrin Dr. servicing the Post Office. The route then heads to Danz and heads south. The route services Preble High and takes Newberry to Bader and turns south heading towards East Mason. The bus heads west on East Mason turning left onto Lime Kiln Road.

The bus heads south on Lime Kiln Road to Verlin Road. The route heads west on Verlin Road to Bellevue St. The bus then heads south on Bellevue to Allouez Avenue. The bus then heads east terminating at the Target/Copps center at the corner of Lime Kiln and Allouez Avenue. The bus turns around and heads back along the same route towards downtown.

Wow..this seems horrible. Once an hour service for this route is really going to hurt for people who need to make it to work, especially in the winter when buses are always behind. Also, if we want to see more professionals in the community looking to use this mode of transportation, they can't miss the bus and be at least an hour late for work every day?? Most of these changes seem like they weren't thought out that well. One of the biggest complaints with ridership is the wait times and length it takes to get anywhere by bus. This makes it worse. This route is completely different and I think Edison is very busy; the areas you are excluding see a lot of service. For sure, all routes should be 1/2 hour service. I also agree with other posters that weekend service isn't that great.

Are there going to be any bus routes servicing the Wilder Park area? We need a bus going down Edgewood! That's one of the reasons we bought our house in this area!

Okay. So this proposal means that going to my mother's house, as she is the only babysitter I have, will now go from this: Pick up on East Mason/Baird and a drop off at Express (taking about 10 minutes) to this: Catching the once an hour #15 all the way to the transit center to catch the this revised #14 and ride the long route all the way to Bellevue/Verlin and hope that the driver will stop where I need them to? That means I'll be wasting more time on the bus.

Right now I just hop off near Express and walk down to Riverbend Terrace Apartments. Will the bus have a stop right there? Even if it does, I'm still not thrilled about having to transfer from one bus to another then ride for about 20 minutes or so to get to my destination. And all of this with a child under 4 years old.

And what about that whole stretch of Bellevue St that will no longer be serviced? Did no one use that portion? Are there no bus riders employed over there or live over there?

In general, I find it perplexing that routes are being eliminated to make other routes longer, when length of time spent on the bus to get to where one needs to go is a big complaint. To have less buses to cover more area may seem like it makes sense to you, but it doesn't to those riding it. We're the ones that have to make do, and, with the way many routes are looking at changing, many of us will no longer be able to.

I think this route is really bad because I live on the east side and rely on this route daily. I especially use it to get to grocery stores(cub's foods on the east side and walmart). I go to the east wal-mart all the time and I always see people coming and going to the east wal-mart on this route. And there are several businesses I frequent all of the time in and around the east town mall. I hate that they are combining route 14 with this other route. There are alot of people on the east side that rely on this route to get to east side businesses and with this proposed route I and other people will have to go downtown and then go to the west side to do our daily business.

good idea, but you might do everyone a favor by not making it go downtown. One of the main with the system is buses spend as many as 15 minutes getting the main portion of the route form downtown(the number 12 for example). the riders need to get downtown they transfer to either 2-main or 7-schmitt park. Also, Preble frowns upon traffic on Danz ave during the school day, you would have keep the bus route on bader street
